Students are given admission in the B. Tech colleges in Karnataka on the basis of Joint Entrance Examination. IIT, NIT and private college affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of technology accepts the score of Joint entrance examination.
Eligibility criteria for IIT Indore is minimum 75% marks in 12th Standard, for SC/ST minimum 65% in 12th Standard. Students can attempt the exam only twice in consecutive years. Students passed +2 on or before 2015 are not eligible to apply.
For private and colleges affiliated to University of technology, Joint entrance exam eligibility is 45% minimum marks in 12st Standard (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates). Students can attempt the exam only twice in consecutive years. Students passed +2 on or before 2015 are not eligible to apply.
Fees varies from college to college. For private college the fees is high but competition is less. For government colleges the competition is very high but fees is comparatively less. Fees also varies in accordance to the branch the candidate is enrolling in. Fees for the government institute varies according to the socio economic background and annual income of the family. Fees for NIT’s for SC/ST/OBC no tuition fees is charged. For candidates whose family income is less than 1 lakhs tuition fees is exempted again. For candidate whose annual family income falls in the bracket of 1 lakhs to 5 lakhs, ⅔ of the tuition fees is exempted.
Fees for IIT’s is high but IIT’s offer large number of scholarships for the students. Ministry of finance every year conducts All India Scholarship Entrance Exam for the students seeking admission in IIT’s, NIT’s and Government medical colleges to provide full financial support for the higher studies.
