Joint Entrance Examination Main Exam 2018(JEE Main)

The Joint Entrance Examination or the JEE exam as it is also known as, is the most popular exam among the students. The JEE is a two tier examination comprising of the main and the advanced. Only when students qualify in the JEE main exam can they appear for the advanced exam. This exam is regulated by CBSE Board.

Conducted by CBSE, JEE mains is scheduled to be held on April 8 2018. The dates for the online mode are expected to be April 14 or 15, 2018 following the previous year's trend and will be updated on the official website as soon as conducting body announces them. Registrations for JEE Main 2018 will start tentatively in the first week of December. 

JEE Main 2018 is the largest engineering entrance test for under graduation course. It is also the first step in the admission process of IITs. Candidates qualifying JEE mains will only get to attend the JEE advance. Through JEE Main 2018, the qualifying candidates will be offered admissions to various undergraduate engineering programmes across country. Almost every engineering college and institute accepts the scores of JEE mains. Since the exam is of high significant value the eligibility criteria is also very tough. In order to be considered eligible for B.Tech admissions through JEE Main 2018, the candidates need to have at least secured 75% marks in class XII (For candidates from reserved category the minimum qualifying marks are 65%) or be in the top 20 percentile in their respective state boards. 

From the academic year 2017-18, it is imperative for every candidate to have Aadhaar Card for filling the application form of JEE mains. Candidate should note that if they don’t own Aadhaar card, they should get before the commencement of the application process. Nationally every year more than 12 lakhs candidates appear for the JEE mains exam. WHAT IS JEE MAIN? 

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an all India common engineering entrance examination conducted for admission to various engineering colleges and courses all over the country. The test comprises two stages - JEE Main and the JEE Advanced. The exams are of the objective pattern. JEE Advanced is regarded internationally as one of the most challenging engineering admission tests. Work hard and crack it.  JEE-Main exam is for admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) while the JEE-Advanced is for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Only the students selected in JEE Mains are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced.

JEE Mains 2018 Exam Dates

Jee mains is the largest engineering entrance exam of the country. It is conducted by CBSE for the candidates seeking admission in undergraduate engineering courses. The process for application generally starts from the month of december and continues till last week of January. The exam takes places in second week of march. Exam dates for JEE Mains are not announced yet and it is expected that official notification will be out by the month of November. However tentatively it is expected to start from the month of December. In official notification CBSE announces all the important dates for JEE Main exam which includes application start and end date, dates for the issuance of the admit card and dates for the result. JEE Main 2018 Eligibility Criteria :

Conducting body for the exam that is CBSE, sets the eligibility criteria for JEE mains exam. The criteria of eligibility includes, qualifying marks, age limit, streams qualifies, required subjects etc. Candidate should be well versed with all the eligibility requirement of the JEE mains 2018 exam. Following is the detailed eligibility criteria for JEE mains 2018 Exam.

  • Age Limit: As per the eligibility criteria set by CBSE, the candidates born on or after October 1, 1993 (or be 25 years old) are eligible to apply for JEE mains 2018 exam . For candidates from reserved category i.e  SC/ST/PwD candidates, a relaxation of 5 years is given. This means that candidates from these categories must be born on or after October 1, 1988 (or be 30 years of age).
  • Qualifying Marks:To be eligible for the JEE mains exam, the candidate from the generally category should have minimum of 75% in 12th board or top 20 percentile in their class.For candidates from reserved the same qualifying marks are 65%
  • The candidate should have pass in 12th or equivalent qualifying examination in the year 2015 or 2016 are eligible to apply for this exam. 
  • For admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs candidates must have 75% marks in 10+2.
  • 65% marks for sc/st candidates.
  • The applicant should have been born on or after October 1, 1992 (or be 25 years old) to be eligible for admission.
  • If candidates belong to reserved category i.e. SC,ST and PwD category, then the date of birth falls on or after 1st October, 1987 are eligible for JEE MAIN.

Aadhaar Card Number :

  • A new eligibility criteria has been added by CBSE from the session of 2018-19. All applicants need to have registered Aadhaar Card Number to be able to fill the application form.

Number of Attempts : 

  • The applicants will be able to attempt JEE Main 3 times.

JEE Main 2018 Application Process :

JEE Main 2018 Application process have not started yet but it is expected to start from the month of December. Application Forms are expected to be available from December 2017 until January , 2018. Mode of application is both online and offline. Candidates can choose to fill the form in either online or offline mode. This year it is expected that nearly 13 lakhs candidates will apply for the exam this year

Candidates have the choice of applying for either Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) or Paper 2 (B.Arch) or both. Make sure you have passed  Class 12 examination with minimum 45% marks in each subject (40% in case of reserved categories), to apply for the Joint Entrance Examination.
